Let’s Review: If I Stay

Gayle Forman provides a compelling and highly textured account of the brutal 24 hours that may be 17-year-old Mia’s last in If I Stay. This book had me at the edge of my seat as I, alongside Mia, reevaluated the day that would influence the most important decision she had to make. Mia is a girl who loses her family in a car accident– and is now in a coma. What is presented in the book is the aftermath of the gruesome accident. In other words, “the future”  *cues intense music*. At the end of the day, you find yourself holding your breath as you wonder what her decision will be: to stay or to leave (live or die basically). Mia’s story will engage readers willing to suspend their disbelief that the future can be seen in the present.
